Can I use a jackhammer with a wide blunt bit for soil compaction?

I agree, go rent a tamper,It's called an elephants foot tamper and they are very easy to use and not to spendy. Also if you digging down to pour footings for this house depending where your at and what the climate and soil conditions are. You should dig down to grade only and pour on un disturbed soil so you shouldn't have to tamp to much if any. Good Luck
