Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children story background?

Okay, I just watched the movie Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children. It was an amazing movie with amazing graphics. But, I've never played any of the video games so I don't understand some of the characters and happenings in the movie. Can you please give me some story background and tell me about the video games so I can understand the movie better?
